Sydney & Ned’s Heartwarming Newborn Family Photos
I recently had the privilege of photographing Sydney and Ned’s newborn session, and let me tell you, it reminded me why I adore this work. When I say, “Give me all your babies,” I truly mean it! Let’s walk through how to plan a cozy, love-filled newborn session that brings out the warmth and joy of this precious time.

When it comes to styling for newborn photos, less is more. You want to create an atmosphere that feels soft, cozy, and full of warmth. For Sydney and Ned’s session, we kept things relaxed and natural, with soft neutral tones and simple clothing that allowed their baby to shine. Think comfy knits, organic textures, and simple outfits that focus on the bond between you and your little one. The key is to keep things simple, as you don’t want to distract from the emotions and love that are truly the star of the show.
For parents, go for light, neutral colors that complement your baby’s natural skin tones. I always suggest staying away from bold patterns or bright colors that might take the focus away from your newborn. For Sydney and Ned, we chose soft beiges and whites that gave a gentle, airy feeling to the photos.
As for baby, I recommend simple wraps, onesies, or swaddles. For newborn sessions, it’s also great to have a cozy little blanket or a keepsake item like a stuffed animal or knit hat to add those personal touches.

Timeless Memories You’ll Forever Cherish
Newborn sessions are all about patience. Babies tend to sleep a lot (but they can also wake up at any moment), so be prepared to take things slow. Your session might include moments of feeding, soothing, or calming, but that’s all part of the process. It’s important to approach the session with a relaxed attitude and to trust that I’ll be there to guide you through each step.
For Sydney and Ned, we took plenty of time to let their little one settle in between shots. The moments of calm were the best—those quiet, tender moments that show the bond of a family growing stronger with every minute. When the session ends, I want you to feel relaxed and joyful, knowing that you’ve captured a moment in time that will last a lifetime.

The Beauty of Simplicity
When it comes to newborn sessions, I’m all about utilizing natural light. It softens the skin, creates that beautiful glow, and adds so much warmth to the photos. During Sydney and Ned’s session, we used soft, diffused light to highlight the tenderness of the moment. If you’re doing your session at home, try to position yourself near a big window with plenty of natural light to bring a soft, ethereal look to your portraits.
If you’re doing your newborn session in a studio or on location, I always try to work with the light around me, focusing on spots that create that beautiful warmth and glow. It’s these subtle touches that turn an already intimate moment into something unforgettable.
